As parents, we know that social media can be a powerful tool for both good and bad. Our kids are growing up in a digital age where they are constantly influenced by what they see and hear online. But did you know that social media can also be used for God’s glory?
Ephesians 4:29 reminds us:
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
This verse is a great foundation for how we can guide our children in using social media. We want our kids to share content that builds others up, spreads kindness, and reflects God’s love. But how can we, as parents, help them use social media responsibly and for God’s glory?
Here are 5 ways you can guide your kids to be responsible on social media:
- Set Clear Boundaries and Expectations: Establish guidelines for how much time your child spends online and what kind of content they can engage with. Help them understand that their posts should reflect their values and faith.
- Model Positive Behavior: Show your kids how to use social media in a way that honors God. Share uplifting and encouraging posts, and avoid negativity. Kids learn by watching what you do!
- Encourage Them to Share Their Faith: Inspire your children to use their platforms to share Bible verses, positive messages, or stories about how God is working in their lives. It’s a great way to be a light in the digital world.
- Teach Discernment: Help your kids recognize when they encounter negative or harmful content. Equip them with the wisdom to make good decisions about what they view, comment on, or share.
- Pray Together About Their Online Presence: Take time to pray with your children, asking God to guide their actions online and help them to use social media for His glory.

We’ve also created a one-minute devotional video called “Social Media for God’s Glory” that is aimed specifically at kids. It helps them understand how they can use social media to uplift others and shine for Jesus.
Additionally, don’t miss our show on Tween Xstream called “Socially Acceptable”. This series teaches kids how to be safe, responsible, and Christ-centered while using social media.
With so many influences online, it’s important that we equip our children to be responsible and godly digital citizens. With a little guidance, they can learn to use social media in a way that honors God and uplifts others.
In Christ’s love,
