Less Screen Time, More Real Life—Here’s Why It Matters

In today’s world, it seems like screens are everywhere—phones, tablets, computers, and TVs. While technology has its benefits, we know it’s important for our kids to find a balance and spend less time glued to their screens. Psalm 119:37 reminds us of this very thing:

“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.” (Psalm 119:37, NIV)

When we help our children step away from constant screen time, we’re giving them the opportunity to experience so much more. Here are 5 amazing benefits your child will experience when they spend less time on their screens:

  1. Better Focus & Attention: Less screen time allows kids to focus on their schoolwork, hobbies, and even conversations with friends and family without the constant distraction of their devices.
  2. Improved Sleep: Reducing screen time—especially before bed—can lead to better sleep, which helps your child feel more rested and energized during the day.
  3. More Creativity & Imagination: When kids are away from screens, they have the opportunity to engage in creative play, whether it’s drawing, building, or playing outside. This nurtures their imagination.
  4. Stronger Relationships: Less time spent on devices means more time connecting with family and friends in real-life interactions, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories.
  5. Healthier Mind & Body: More movement and less sitting in front of screens lead to better physical health, and a break from digital overstimulation can also improve their mental well-being.

We’ve created a one-minute devotional video called “Less Screen Time” to help your kids understand the importance of stepping away from their devices and enjoying life beyond the screen. It’s a great conversation starter for you and your child as you work together to find balance.

Additionally, you can check out an episode from our series “Socially Acceptable” called “Fear of Missing Out”. This episode teaches kids about the importance of living in the real world, not just in the digital one, and how to overcome the fear of missing out when they’re not online.

At Tween Xstream, we are passionate about helping kids make healthy choices that lead them closer to God and strengthen their relationships. Encouraging less screen time is one way to help them experience more of the world around them and live the life God has planned for them.
